snippets of my thoughts and inspirations. sometimes related to running but sometimes random. currently living in washington, dc.

EVERY TIME I SEE A DOG IS LIKE THE FIRST TIME I’VE EVER SEEN A DOG AND ALL I CAN HEAR IN MY HEAD IS HIGH PITCHED SCREAMS OF LOVE.
I’ve been saying I’m going to visit friends in different cities, but while many have come to DC, I haven’t been to their new cities… So I’m making plans and buying tickets!
June 10-12: NYC to visit this girl aka my freshman (and junior) year random roommate turned sorority sister turned hair twin turned I don’t even know anymore. We’ve already worked out a deal where I get her first gorgeous half-Asian baby. New York City has always overwhelmed me, but I’m hoping with a seasoned guide, it’ll be wonderful!
June 23-25: Durham, NC to visit this boy I kinda like at this place I kinda love called Duke. I’m helping him move. I am SUCH a good girlfriend. Isn’t he lucky? (Ok this isn’t a new city, but it is a trip in the next month!)
July 15-17: Boston to visit my bffaeaeaeae who was supposed to start a blog/tumblr with me, but look who has fallen behind… not me! I’m already dreaming of the abundance of Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts that we will have. And perhaps I’ll get a little inspiration for this little marathon I hope to run here one day.
I’ve also gotten a request to visit SF this summer… we’ll see how that one works out, but it would be lovely!
***Pictures are more exciting than words, so when I actually go on these trips, I’ll post ‘em!
I have a trail half marathon in two weeks, but I’m running with a friend, and our only goals are to finish and to enjoy ourselves. Therefore, while I’ve been getting my longer runs in on the weekends, I haven’t been on a focused training plan the way I have been for past races where I had a specific goal time in mind.
I’ve enjoyed the few bike rides I’ve done in DC, but I haven’t put a lot of time into it, even though I have dreams of completing an official century ride and a half Ironman in the near(ish) future. I rode a lot last summer, but just haven’t had the time and knowledge of the area yet this year. Because of my plans for this, I’m putting off training for a fall century ride. I guess I just haven’t found a purpose right now for cycling, even though I love when I do get out there.
So why am I not doing a triathlon this summer? I’ve done two sprint tris before, and I not-so-secretly used to be the reigning champ for my age group in this (so happy they made a video!). DC offers this one and this one (ok it’s already sold out but still). My big hang-up was not knowing where I could swim laps consistently, without buying an expensive gym membership. I also don’t have a car here, so that is a limiting factor.
Today’s big celebration? I was reading some local triathletes’ blogs and found where at least one of them swims! The pool only 2.6 miles from my apartment, and it opens at 6am so I can swim before work, and it’s FREE to DC residents!!! Now I’m glad I took the time to switch my driver’s license to DC.
YAYAYAYAYAY! (that’s my excited noise). I want to go swim tomorrow! And now I’m contemplating that June sprint tri. It’s kinda soon, but I know I’m in good running shape, decent enough biking shape to complete it, and if I swim twice a week…. I know I’ll be able to finish it, and that might be enough for now!
Also, I think I need a blog rather than a tumblr…
Thanks for the reminder, Dove. Sometimes I get too excited trying to plan everything out that I forget that today is pretty great the way it is!
This is adorable. And reminiscent of life at Duke. Why is there no bin candy in my life anymore??
